A beer drinking, card playing ghost is said to haunt Menorca's historic Fort Marlborough. A case of high spirits?
Menorca has the largest concentration of prehistoric sites (over 1000) in the world. Many from the Talaiotic period (2000 – 123 bc).
On a walk around the pretty inlet of Cala San Estaban, don’t be surprised if you are accompanied by groups of crowing cockerels. They rule the roost there.

Top tips

There are annual Fiestas or 'Festes' held at most towns and villages throughout the year. They are lively and colourful affairs, centering on maginficent displays of traditional Menorcan horsemanship. Catch one if you can.
Special MP3 players can be used to follow itineraries around Mahon, Ciutadella and sites of cultural importance. Packed with historical facts and interesting info, they can be hired from Tourist Centres or Viaje Magon's Offices for around 10 euros a day.
If you like Motor Racing you could be in for a treat while you're in Menorca. Formula One teams use the airfield at the Aeroclub to test their cars between Grand Prix Races.
